Marvel studios has scheduled a special press event for this coming week, and news outlets are speculating that major information regarding the future of its popular film franchises could be revealed.
According to Newsarama, Marvel issued a surprise invitation for the event, which is to be held on Tuesday, October 28 at the El Capitan Theater in Los Angeles, California. The invitations reportedly specify that the gathering will concern Marvel Studios, leading to speculation that any announcement will have little to do with Marvel's comics.
As Comicbook.com notes, the press event, which is reminiscent of Apple's introduction of major products, is either open to fans, or being held concurrently with another, fan-centric gathering. Marvel teased the special event on Twitter, although no announcement has yet been posted on their Facebook page.

News of the press event led to rampant speculation about what announcements Marvel could have in store. As Business Insider points out, actor Robert Downey Jr. recently participated in a Reddit Ask Me Anything, and hinted that Marvel's future plans could soon be made public. Since Warner Bros has unveiled their future films, immediate speculation has fixed on the idea that Marvel will announce their Phase 3 movies. While it is known that Marvel's plans extend to 2028, only the studio's schedule up to 2019 has been made public, as The Inquisitr previously noted.

If Marvel does not intend to release the titles for an upcoming slate of films, the studio may confirm information that has already been leaked to the press. While it was recently revealed that Robert Downey Jr will appear in the next Captain America film, thought to be part of the Civil War storyline, Marvel has yet to confirm the news officially. It is also well known that Marvel intends to move forward with a Doctor Strange movie, and trade publications have linked many actors who are not already involved with Marvel to the project over the past few months. If Marvel has settled on a lead actor for Doctor Strange, their event may be intended to reveal the news before another source does.
The event is scheduled for the same day that a clip from Avengers: Age Of Ultron is set to air during Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., leading to further speculation that Marvel's announcement might somehow be tied to the upcoming film.
