Melissa Rivers has come forward after her mother Joan Rivers’ autopsy results were released. Speaking publicly for the first time since releasing an initial statement on her mother’s death, Melissa kept her comment short and sweet.
“In response to NYC’s Medical examiner’s report, we continue to be saddened by our tragic loss. No further comment at this time.”
As The Inquisitr reported , the legendary comedian died due to “predictable complications” of medical therapy, which happened during her throat surgery at Yorkville Endoscopy on August 28. The autopsy results stated that Rivers was sedated by the use of Propofol, and the main cause of death was a lack of oxygen to the brain during the unauthorized procedure.
During the throat procedure, a scope was used in her gastrointestinal track and vocal folds. Rivers went into cardiac arrest and was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition. Rivers died days later on September 4.
Due to Rivers not getting the best care possible, Melissa is currently looking into suing the medical facility for $100 million.
At the time of her mother’s death, Melissa released a heartbreaking statement .
“My son and I would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Mount Sinai Hospital for the amazing care they provided for my mother. Cooper and I have found ourselves humbled by the outpouring of love, support, and prayers we have received from around the world. They have been heard and appreciated. My mother’s greatest joy in life was to make people laugh. Although that is difficult to do right now, I know her final wish would be that we return to laughing soon.”
As details were trickling in about Rivers’ autopsy result, spokesperson Julie Bolcer released a complete statement to The Hollywood Reporter in regards to the cause of Joan’s death.
“The cause of Ms. Rivers’ death is anoxic encephalopathy due to hypoxic arrest during laryngoscopy and upper gastrointestinal endoscopy with propofol sedation for evaluation of voice changes and gastroesophageal reflux disease. The manner of death is therapeutic complication. The classification of a death as a therapeutic complication means that the death resulted from a predictable complication of medical therapy.”
Previous to the results, the doctor who performed the throat procedure on the comedian was fired by the clinic’s board. According to TMZ , Dr. Lawrence Cohen was asked to step down, even though at the time the board wasn’t blaming him for Rivers’ death. Cohen is also the co-owner of the Yorkville Endoscopy L.L.C. located on 93rd St and 3rd ave.
Joan Rivers was 81-years-old at the time of her death.
