Tyler Perry Needs To Focus On Acting More And Directing Less — Here’s Why!

Tyler Perry has been able to successfully impress fans and critics alike with his performance in the David Fincher-directed film, Gone Girl, starring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike.

In its opening weekend, Gone Girl was able to beat a lot of tough competition in order to take the top spot in the box office.

Quite a few of the actors and actresses involved with this film are already getting Oscar buzz — including both of the leading stars and the film’s director as well.

However, Tyler Perry might at least walk away from this film with a Golden Globe nomination primarily because of the fact that he was able to shock many people with the depth and versatility of his own acting ability.

In recent years, Tyler Perry has been able to focus more on his own acting career, and not so much on writing and directing major motion pictures for the big screen. With such critically-acclaimed roles as Alex Cross in Alex Cross, and even his short cameo appearance in the first Star Trek movie directed by JJ Abrams, Tyler Perry has proven that he just might be able to compete with other A-list actors in the near future.

The fact that the Madea actor, writer and director is even being considered for roles in big budget films directed by Oscar winners should speak volumes.

According to US Weekly, Tyler Perry did not even know the film history and accolades associated with the name “David Fincher” when he signed up for the movie. In the interview, he stated that he definitely would not have even done the movie if he would have known that.

“This is the honest-to-God’s truth. If I had known who David Fincher was, and his body of work…If I had known that the book was so popular, and so many people loved it…Had I known all those things, I would have said no. And my agent knew that! So he didn’t tell me any of those things! Not until after I had signed on to do it.”

Since Tyler Perry has been focusing more on the writing side of his career by developing new episodes for his shows on the OWN Network, it seems as if that has given him a lot of spare time to focus on developing his own acting career further outside of putting himself in his own movies.

Perhaps Tyler Perry has realized that he does have some degree of talent that can be molded and crafted into an Oscar-worthy career which extended far beyond playing Madea – the one role that basically was the foundation of his professional acting career whether fans and critics would like to admit it or not.

Gone Girl puts Tyler Perry in a whole new bracket of potential A-list talent. What do you think?
