Jessica Lange May Not Leave ‘American Horror Story’ After All
Jessica Lange may not be done with American Horror Story after this season of Freak Show wraps up. Although The Inquisitr has covered Lange’s exit from the show, including quotes from the actress, series co-creator, and head writer, Ryan Murphy is still trying to get her into the next season, and trying to avoid the inevitable.
Her presence on the American Horror Story series is largely felt in every season. So the thought of losing such an iconic actress in a show that heavily relies on her is hard to swallow. For Murphy, it looks like he doesn’t want to know a future without Lange on his set, either.
According to TVLine, who caught up with Murphy, the actress is enjoying this season so much that it might have opened discussions about further seasons.
As far as Lange’s involvement, it sounds like the actress and Murphy are still trying to figure out what that means.
“This is her favorite season, without question. I really want her to keep her hand in [future seasons]… Does that mean 13 episodes? Does that mean six? Does that mean one? She and I are probably going to have a dinner date when the holidays come.”
A dinner date right before negotiations start on future seasons? Sounds like Murphy has plans to wine and dine the actress, and hopes to convince her to stick around. Viewers of American Horror Story would certainly be grateful, as the show won’t be the same without Lange. Taking into account how the seasons are structured, it would be plausible for Lange to float in and out of the future seasons, so it wouldn’t be too hard to see the two cooking up a deal.
As for what it will take for Lange to say yes? Murphy muses, “It always starts with a character for Jessica, so I think I’d have to present her with something she was very interested in. Before, I was met with a really quick ‘No.’ Now, I’m hearing, ‘Well, let’s keep talking.’ So I thought that was a very good sign.”
He continued, “I think if I presented her with the right character, and it could work with her schedule, she might be interested. That’s my hope.”
American Horror Story: Freak Show premieres tonight on FX. For the fourth season, Jessica Lange plays a German ex-patriot who rallies the “freaks” and “unusuals” for a traveling freak show.
