New Video Game Releases For The Week Of October 12, 2014

The new video game releases for the week of October 12, 2014 will continue to thin your wallet, as the final months of the year continue their deluge of big releases. Headlining the new video games for this week is a new port of Minecraft, the latest survival horror game from Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami and the Pre-Sequel for Borderlands.

Fans of the Borderlands franchise will be receiving the latest entry into Gearbox’s open-world shooter saga this week. Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel takes place between the original Borderlands and Borderlands 2 set on the moon of Pandora, which marks the first time players will be somewhere other than the planet Pandora. Four new character classes are available with various NPC’s, including Handsome Jack, the slightly insane tyrant who served as the primary antagonist for Borderlands 2.

During the game, players will get to see Handsome Jack’s transition into the deranged ruler of Pandora at the head of the Hyperion Corporation. Other notable characters include Athena the Gladiator, who was featured in The Secret Armory of General Knoxx from Borderlands. Claptrap is also a playable character in this game as a Fragtrap class, supercharged with an experimental malware package. Rounding out the roster is Nisha the Lawbringer and another face from Borderlands 2, Wilhelm the Enforcer. Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel will release on the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.

Fans of the survival horror genre will be getting a few releases to tide them over if Alien: Isolation did not hold them over from last week’s video game releases. The biggest of the horror games will be The Evil Within, directed by one of the pioneers of the survival horror genre, Shinji Mikami. Mikami started with Capcom in 1990, making such Disney-licensed games for the Nintendo GameBoy as Aladdin, which sold almost two million units. After making the Disney games, he went onto create Biohazard, which was released as Resident Evil in North America for the original Sony PlayStation and Sega Saturn.

In The Evil Within, players will take the roll of a detective named Sebastian Castellanos, who is investigating a gruesome mass murder. He is abducted and finds himself awakened inside a deranged world where horrific monsters and creatures wander. The Evil Within will release on the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC.
