‘Game Of Thrones’ Spoilers: This Rag-Clothed Man Is One Of Season 5’s Most Important Characters

The saying goes that “when you play the Game of Thrones , you win or you die,” but Season 5 of the hit HBO series will probably show that it’s not quite as black and white as that. You can also just get humiliated, and new pics from the Game of Thrones set show a rag-clothed man who will wind up taking down one of the series’ most powerful characters.

The Game of Thrones crew is hard at work filming Season 5 of the hit fantasy series, and pics of the new Game of Thrones season in production continue to leak out. The most recent shots show a character viewers are unlikely to be familiar with unless they’ve read the books: the High Sparrow.

New shots, courtesy of Winter Is Coming , show Jonathan Pryce walking through King’s Landing looking rather disheveled in a bare, ragged cloth. He might not look like much, but the High Sparrow is about to turn the world of Game of Thrones on its head.

The High Sparrow is going to totally turn things upside-down in the Game of Thrones world. #neverarmthefaith

The High Sparrow is a sort of Pope of faith that follows the series’ seven New Gods, and he comes to King’s Landing in search of assistance from the Crown. While series watchers have been loving the battles and scheming between kingly factions on the show, all of those normal people in the Game of Thrones world have been suffering the ravages of war.

The countryside has been razed, and the faithful have been under siege while we’ve been enjoying Joffrey’s death, mourning Oberyn Martell and cheering while Tyrion killed his father.

What’s that? You didn’t know those things happened? You read this far into an article with “ Game of Thrones Spoilers” in the title and you aren’t caught up on the series? No pity; hope you learned something.

The High Sparrow comes to King’s Landing to seek aid from the throne, and his arrival puts the royalty on edge. Not to give everything away, but let’s just say that the High Sparrow demonstrates that true power doesn’t always rest only with the crown. You can expect to see a number of “powerful” characters brought low by this seemingly lowly man.

Of course, the new season of Game of Thrones is still months away. Thrones fans are no doubt anxious to see what the action will look like in the next season, but in the meantime, they can look forward to a Game of Thrones companion book, A World of Ice and Fire , due out on October 28. As Inquisitr has pointed out, there are tons of other Game of Thrones -related things you can do to while away the months until winter comes again.

If that’s not enough for you, you could always read the books. That way you won’t be taken by surprise when a Thrones Spoiler post contains actual spoilers.
