Girl Named Isis: 8-Year-Old’s Parents Call For Terror Group To Be Renamed

A girl named Isis is just 8-years-old, but her name is popping up all over the place. While it would be wonderful to say that Isis was getting recognition for doing something outstanding, her name is now associated with one of the most extreme terror groups in the world. According to Mail Online, Isis’ parents, Frank and Sheridan, want people to stop using “ISIS” to refer to the group because it is having a negative impact on their family.

“Frank and Sheridan Leskien — from Bexley in Sydney’s south — named their daughter, Isis, after the Egyptian goddess who was portrayed as a model wife and mother, and is the patroness of nature and magic,” reports Mail Online. Young Isis has gone from having a name be called “beautiful” and “unique” to getting strange looks over the past couple of months. Her mom did an interview with News Australia and said that such a beautiful name shouldn’t be associated with such an “evil group.”

“It’s ruining our family and it’s ruining Isis’s future. I’m heartbroken for all the families being affected (by Islamic State), the journalists, the different people who are suffering, but my family is suffering too…some people say we should change her name, but that’s just ridiculous. She’s eight years old, she’ll hardly be told what to do at all. What people need to do is stop using this beautiful name for this evil group.”

Another mom shared similar feelings about her 6-year-old daughter’s name.

“My 6 year old daughter Isis keeps seeing her name in tabloids and hearing it on the news and asking why people want to fight against her!!!!!! This needs to stop! When I cheer for her at soccer over the past month all of the adults turn and look at me. It’s only a matter of time before her classmates will know of the terrorists as well.”

While ISIS is just an acronym, the actual name means something different — and not just to the Leskien family. There are other people named Isis who want the terror group to be called something that doesn’t interfere with the name — or the beautiful meaning behind the name. If you agree with changing the name, you can sign the petition below.

According to The Inquisitr, the fight against ISIS is going to get ugly — but thinking of these children who are being taunted because they share the name that the world has chosen for these terrorists has different affects on different people. Do you think the name ISIS needs to be changed? Will it be?
