Tiger Woods Starts Frys.com Open With Lousy Outing

Tiger Woods started off the frys.com Open on Thursday with a disappointing 2 over par 73, leaving the former No. 1 ranked player six shots behind leaders Brendan Steele, Briny Baird, Garrett Willis and Matt Bettencourt.

With his score Woods is tied for 86th out of 132 players with only the top 70 players making the 36-hole round on Friday.

After finishing his first round Woods told the press:

“I’m not happy,” while adding, “It’s one of my worst putting rounds. I don’t think I could putt worse than I did.”

Talking about his struggles Woods revealed said of his 27 putts:

“I just had a hard time hitting my stroke, and then I started altering it. And it was all over the place,” He went on to add, “My stroke got worse because I was trying to do it, and then, you know, I started losing confidence in it because I wasn’t hitting my line. So it was just a downward spiral.”

The Frys.com Open is the first tournament for Woods since the PGA Championship seven weeks ago, Woods failed to make the cut for that tournament.

The day was nearly a total loss after Woods birdied the first hole but then failed to make another one until the par-5 15th. Woods was missing fairways and greens all day (7 of 14 fairways and 9 of 18 greens), while missing makeable birdie putts on the ninth and 10th holes.

Talking about his “better” and “worst” parts of the game Woods told the press:

“The rest of the game was not too bad. I hit some bad shots, yes. But also I hit some really good ones. And very pleased at the shots I was hitting most of the day,” adding “But I got nothing out of the round on the greens. And whatever momentum I could have gotten by hitting good shots, you know, I just missed putts.”

Do you think Tiger Woods has what it takes to make a comeback during the Frys.com Open?
