Cajun squirrel flavoured potato chips


Tired of the same ol’ same ol’ flavours of potato chips?

Well if you live in Britain and are a fan of the Walkers brand of potato chips crisps then you are in for a real treat. Starting today all you bored Brit crisp eater will be able to select from a whole new line of flavours.Besides the Cajun Squirrel the other flavours include Crispy Duck, Onion Bhaji, Fish and Chips and one called Builder’s Breakfast.

Right now during the promotion crisp aficionados will be able to vote for their favourite new flavour until the end of May. At that point the most popular flavour will go into full production At this point there has been 1.2 million votes and six finalists have been selected who have received a whopping £10,000 each as prize money. The final winner will receive £50,000 plus 1% royalty of sales for that flavour which could amount to £57,000 per year.

After the entries were narrowed down and the finalists selected, food technologists set about creating the flavours in the laboratory, using a mixture of natural ingredients and unspecified “flavouring”, which Walkers’ head of flavour development, James Stilman, said were “natural flavour compounds” and not e-numbers.

Full English breakfast is made up of salt, pepper, sage, barley malt extract, butter, citric acid, dried garlic and flavouring, while the ingredients for Cajun squirrel include milk, lactose, salt, sugar, dried onion, dried garlic, dried lemon juice, cardamon, ginger, coriander, chilli, cumin, oregano, thyme, allspice, parsley, paprika extract and flavouring.
