Keith Urban Supports Nicole Kidman After Father’s Death


Keith Urban has been a tower of strength to Nicole Kidman and her relatives as they try to come to grips with the passing of the patriarch of the Kidman family.

As reported in an earlier Inquisitr story, Nicole Kidman’s Father, Dr. Anthony Kidman, died on Friday when he was rushed to the hospital after collapsing in a restaurant in Singapore. He was visiting Nicole Kidman’s younger sister, Antonia, who lives in Singapore.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported Keith Urban, in showing solidarity with the Kidmans, cancelled a U.S. tour date he had planned. He wrote a note to his fans on his Facebook page.

“I’m so very sorry that I cannot perform this weekend. We are in a deep state of grief at the passing of Nic’s Father and are heading to Australia to be with family. We want to thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts for their love, prayers and support through this devastating loss.”

The country singer has received an outpouring of support from his fans on social media. His post on Facebook received 305,943 likes, 4675 shares and 35,394 comments expressing condolences. The same note posted on his Twitter page also got a number of replies giving encouragement and support.

Tributes have started coming in for Dr. Kidman. The Sydney Morning Herald said he has been lauded as a greatly admired man who made a significant impact in his field by his colleague, Professor Helen Christensen, Director of the Black Dog Institute.

“Dr Antony Kidman made an enormous contribution to mental health research and clinical care in Australia. His skill and passion for empowering the patient laid the foundations for a new generation of self-driven psychological care.”

Us Magazine reported that Nicole Kidman was in Nashville when she got the news of her father’s death. A close source to the Kidman family told the magazine of Keith Urban’s support for his wife.

“Nicole is beside herself. Keith vowed to be with her as long as he needs to during this horrible time and he is supporting his wife to the fullest.”

On Sunday, the couple and their two daughters arrived in Sydney where they visited the family home and spent time with family members.Keith Urban and the Kidman family met with their minister, Father Paul Coleman, on Monday to discuss plans for the funeral, according to the Daily Mail.

Keith Urban was seen comforting his wife as they left the meeting with the minister.
