Mujahidah Bint Usama: British Medical Student Joins ISIS, Tweets Picture Holding Severed Head

Mujahidah Bint Usama has left behind her life as a 21-year-old medical student in the U.K. and joined the radical Islamist group ISIS, posting a picture of herself holding a severed head and claiming to have become a “terrorist doctor.”

The woman is the latest case of a Westerner abandoning a privileged life in the U.K. to join the group, which has taken over large portions of Iraq and Syria, and massacred thousands of civilians in the meantime. The young woman had been posting on Twitter under the name Mujahidah Bint Usama, telling followers all about her new life with ISIS.

The young woman claims she is a doctor for ISIS based in Raqqa, Syria. She posted an image of herself wearing her white doctor’s jacket and holding a severed, bloody head while two children stand beside her. Alongside the picture was a caption that read, “Dream job, a terrorist doc.”

Mujahidah Bint Usamahad has more than 800 Twitter followers, though her account is now suspended. She had also tweeted pictures of dead soldiers and the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

She is not alone in leaving the U.K. to join ISIS, the Daily Mail noted.

GCHQ and MI5 are known to be monitoring the accounts of around 60 female British jihadis who are believed to be in Raqqa in order to put together a picture of their activities.

The Government has previously stated that those who take part in atrocities such as beheadings and massacres will be prosecuted for war crimes and terror offences if they return to the U.K.

Another U.K. resident is believed to have become a prominent terrorist. Some experts believe that former London-based rapper Abdel-Majed Abdel Bary is the masked ISIS militant seen in videos beheading American James Foley. Like Mujahidah Bint Usamahad, Bary is believed to have come from a well-to-do family and lived a comfortable life in the U.K.

But Bary may also have family connections to Osama bin Laden. His father was extradited to the United States in 2012, facing charges that he once served as a close lieutenant of Osama bin Laden.

Authorities have not confirmed the identity of Mujahidah Bint Usama or whether the picture supposedly showing the British medical student holding a severed head is legitimate.
