The amount of new video game releases for the week of September 14, 2014 is surprisingly robust considering the giant sphere of Destiny is still looming over the gaming world. While none of these games are first person shooters or MMO’s, they are still brave to come out from under The Traveler’s shadow.

In the last 27 years since the original Final Fantasy released on Japan’s Famicom system, there have been 80 games in the Final Fantasy series and Theatrythym Final Fantasy Curtain Call is the latest in the series amongst our new video game releases for the week. The 3DS rhythm game is a sequel to the original Theatrythym for the 3DS which game players a battle system based around musical tapping and drawing similar in practice to Rock Band though you are using a stylus instead of a plastic Rickenbacker. The game features remixes of music that spans the entire series history including the main numbered series as well as the multiple spin-offs.

Zen Studios, the creators of the ZEN Pinball franchise, also has a new IP releasing this week on next gen systems. KickBeat Special Edition is the next-gen release for a game that is already available on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PS Vita as a cross buy game as well as the PC via Steam. KickBeat is an answer to a question that Neil Sorens, Creative Director of Zen Studios, asked, “What would happen if we took a beat-matching game, replaced the abstract cues like bars, arrows, and button icons with kung fu fight scenes, and set it all to some incredibly intense music?” KickBeat which combines the beat matching mechanic along with martial arts fighting set to licensed music tracks or songs that gamers can import into the game from their own collection.

Other games worth mentioning here include a new RPG, Fairy Fencer F which is a new IP from developer Compile Heart which is known for the Hyerdimension Neptunia and Agarest War series. Another is Murasaki Baby which is drawn in the style of Edward Gorey with music from Silent Hill composer alum Akira Yamaoka all set to a story of leading a toddler baby through a land of nightmares on a quest to find her mother. You can see the rest of the games coming out this week below.
