Ghostbusters 3 will not be the same without Bill Murray. Yes, it’s true. Murray will not appear in the threequel, according to his former co-star and good friend Dan Aykroyd. He tells Screen Rant that he is 100 percent certain Murray will not be in Ghostbusters 3.
“We’re not going to do a movie that exploits the franchise. The script has to be perfect. I’m the cheerleader, but I’m only one voice in the matter. It’s a surety that Bill Murray will not do the movie, however, there is still interest from the studio.”
However, there is speculation that Bill Murray still has a big say in the future of Ghostbusters 3 since he still owns some rights to the franchise. That is why his opinion and suggestions for the female cast are of vital importance. Regardless, we are all interested in Murray’s opinions and ideas for Ghostbusters 3.
Murray loves the idea that has been tossed around of an all female cast for the threequel, as revealed by Mirror.
“I’m fine with it. I’d go to that movie. And they’d (the females) probably have better outfits, too.”
So, who’s he gonna call?
Murray’s top of the list to sport the next edition of coveralls and proton packs is the hilarious Melissa McCarthy. One can’t help but giggle just thinking about it. Can you just envision her now suiting up to battle the next Stay Puft Marshmallow Man?
McCarthy co-stars with Bill Murray in his newest upcoming feature film, the dramedy, St. Vincent, which had it’s worldwide premiere over the weekend at the Toronto International Film Festival. According to The Star, Murray completely backs Melissa McCarthy as a Ghostbuster.
“Melissa would be a spectacular Ghostbuster. And Kristen Wiig is so funny — God, she’s funny!”
Huffington Post also revealed other possibilities of females that got the “thumbs up” from Bill Murray.
“I like this girl Linda Cardellini (Mad Men) a lot. And Emma Stone is funny. There are some funny girls out there.”
It is rumored that Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are also candidates being considered for these coveted spots. Another coveted spot is Ghostbusters 3‘s director. Producer Ivan Reitman, although not quick to reveal much, has reportedly told Huffington Post that Paul Feig, director of Bridesmaids is in the throws of negotiations.
These are some huge shoes to fill considering the classic that Ghostbusters has become. Melissa McCarthy knows that all too well.
While at the Toronto International Film Festival over the weekend promoting St. Vincent with Bill Murray, The Star approached her and asked if she liked the idea of possibly becoming a Ghostbuster. She said she wouldn’t “boo the idea,” and would love to work with the other ladies mentioned, but McCarthy has yet to be approached.
“Listen, if the people I think are doing it are doing it, I must never question them.”
And as far as working with the other hilarious gals?
“Oh, my God, that’s daunting. That’s taking on a legend, a legendary movie. But I would do anything with those ladies, anything at all.”
As the baton is passed to the next group of Ghostbusters, what is Bill Murray so busy doing? His pal Dan Aykroyd happily spills the beans to Screen Rant.
“He’s got six kids, houses all over America. He golfs in these tournaments where they pay him to turn up and have a laugh. He’s into this life and living it.”
Good for you, Bill Murray. And keep your eyes open. You never know where Bill Murray may turn up. This fabulous comedian has become known for his public tricks and pranks, from crashing weddings, photo bombing couple’s engagement photographs, to playing soccer with elementary school kids. You gotta love Bill Murray.
