eBay is down and sellers are making their frustrations known on Twitter, using the hashtag #eBayDown to connect with other users who are having problems logging into their accounts on September 3. While many fear that the site has been hacked, scheduled site maintenance may be the problem.
Ironically, eBay is down on its 19th birthday. Formerly known as AuctionWeb, the company was founded in San Jose, California, on September 3, 1995 by the current chairman of the popular auction site, Pierre Omidyar.
On Wednesday afternoon, The BBC reported that users around the world were experiencing issues logging into their eBay accounts. Customers and sellers in the India, US, UK and many parts of Europe are not only having problems accessing their account, some sellers are finding that their listings have completely vanished.
How does such a large company like @eBay have it's system go down for 3+ hours now?? I can't get into my seller's account #ebaydown #wtfOn the eBay customer service page, there is currently an announcement posted about "updates" that are being made to the site. This update could be the reason why listings are not showing up, the eBay mobile app is not working correctly and why users are having issues using their current password when they attempt to log in.

One of eBay's Twitter accounts, @AskeBay is also actively fielding questions from frustrated users, but not giving specific information as to when things will return to normal for both buyers and sellers.
