Joe LaCava Takes Job As Tiger Woods Caddie

Tiger Woods has a new caddie in Joe LaCava. Reports began circulating on Sunday that LaCava decided to leave current partner Dustin Johnson to work with the world’s former number 1 golfer.

After rumors began circulating Johnson’s agent David Winkle of Hambric Sports Management confirmed that LaCava was leaving to work with Woods, also announcing that Johnson would begin searching for a new caddie immediately.

Winkle told USAToday:

“Needless to say, Dustin and I were completely surprised, as they have enjoyed a great relationship and have been very successful together,” while adding, “Nonetheless, we think highly of Joe, both as a caddie and a person, which is why he was hired in the first place. We wish him nothing but the best with his new employer.”

Before working with Johnson LaCava was the long time friend and caddie to Fred Couples until his health deteriorated and his playing schedule was cut drastically down.

Speculation had surrounded who Woods would work with after he fired long-time caddy of 13 years Steve Williams during the summer schedule.

Now LaCava just has to hope Woods is stronger than he has been in recent years, caddies on the PGA tournament earn money based off a percentage of winnings, something Woods has been lacking in the last two years.

Speaking about his leg injury Tiger Woods says his left leg is now stronger than it has been in years. We’ll see if LaCava’s strategy pays off when Woods competes at the Frys.com Open in two weeks. Woods will also play in the Australian Open and Presidents Cup.

Do you think Joe LaCava can help Tiger Woods regain some of his former luster?
