Manchester United Transfers: Daley Blind To Sign For Red Devils As Shinji Kagawa Leaves

Manchester United are set to confirm the signing of Daley Blind from Ajax tomorrow. The Dutch international is expected to arrive at Old Trafford for just short of $20 million.

Blind has already worked alongside United’s new manager, Louis Van Gaal, after the pair helped to lead Holland to the semi-finals at the 2014 World Cup.

It’s believed that Blind will play in a variety of positions for United. Not only can he play in defensive midfield, he can easily function as a left-back or as a centre-back too. Blind is expected to complete his move on Monday as he has already completed his medical over the weekend.

Blind spent the last few weeks trying to force through his move to England, and on Friday night he was able to finally start celebrating the transfer after it became clear United and Ajax would be able to sort out a deal.

Over the weekend, Blind discussed his feelings on the imminent transfer. “I got a call on Friday night that the clubs had agreed a deal,” Blind explained to the Telegraph. “I was with my girlfriend and we went to my parents to drink a glass of wine. I am enormously proud to be at one of the biggest clubs in the world. Everything has happened so suddenly. What exactly has gone off in the background, only my agent and my dad know, but it was a very exciting and tense time.”

When he was asked about what position he would prefer to play in for United, Blind admitted that all he is interested in is making sure that he actually starts for the side. “I don’t at all, as long as I get minutes on the field,” he confirmed. “Did I speak with Louis van Gaal in the last few days about the role I am going to play at United? We did have some informal contact, but the conversations which took place stay between him and me. I just want to be part of the team, in whatever role that is going to be, in defence or in midfield.”

Blind will be United’s fifth signing of the summer. They already bought Angel di Maria from Real Madrid, Ander Herrera from Athletico Bilbao, Marcos Rojo from Sporting Lisbon, and Luke Shaw from Southampton. Meanwhile Blind won’t be joined at Old Trafford by Shinji Kagawa after it was announced that the Japanese international had re-signed for Borussia Dortmund.
