Ghostbusters Returning To Theaters In October

Are you ready to take on a bunch of ghosts? If not you can let the Ghostbusters take care of that job for you. Sony Pictures Entertainment announced on Thursday that they are bringing the original Ghostbusters movie back to theaters.

The movie will play for a limited engagement on three Thursdays in October. Moviegoers can watch the original Ghostbusters film on Oct. 13, Oct. 20 and Oct. 27.

Unlike the recently re-released Lion King movie Ghostbusters won’t be in 3D however Sony is hoping it can take in the same type of $40 million gross Lion King has managed since being reintroduced to theaters.

The original Ghostbusters movie was released in 1984 and a new series of Ghostbuster movies are said to be in the works with most of the original cast agreeing to appear.

Speaking about the re-release Rory Bruer, Sony Pictures’ President of Worldwide Distribution, said in a statement:

“As we head toward Halloween, we ain’t afraid of no ghosts, but just the same, we’re glad that everyone’s favorite paranormal eliminators are on the case.”

It has also been revealed that Ghostbusters 2011 will be shown in 2K digital with 5.1 surround sound.

In the meantime here’s a trailer from the original movie:

Ghostbusters will be released close to Halloween, do you plan to check it out in celebration of the ghostliest time of the year? If nothing else this could be a great chance for parents to introduce their children to the movie, perhaps even for fans who missed the original movie in theaters to check it out.
