Little Person Exposes Shocking Dwarf Insensitivity With Hidden Camera [Video]

Society has always been exposed to “little people,” but have we always understood their plight? Once referred to as the politically incorrect term “midget,” over the last several years important dialogue has been opened up by introducing reality shows like Little People Big World, and Little Couple.

However, it seems like while people are still open to understanding the daily challenges of being a little person living in a very “big” world, there are those out there who aren’t knowledgeable about little people or comfortable around them. To some, being a little person is a bit like looking at someone performing for quarters. This was exposed when little person Jonathan Novick shared his daily struggle living in New York. The city on its own seems like a pretty good representation of a melting pot. It’s always been said that if you’re different, you can go to New York, especially Manhattan, and belong to a group. Unfortunately, Novick didn’t experience that inclusion.

Novick has decided to tell his story by filming footage using a hidden camera, which is disguised as a button on his clothing. He used this footage in a brief documentary called Don’t Look Down on Me which has gone viral since he posted it on August 7.

It’s no surprise that the video of his daily adventures in New York has gone viral. What he captures is quite shocking. A child’s innocent confusion, “What is that?” is brought down to a different level of perspective. When he isn’t dealing with horrible stereotypes, Novick is confronted with vulgar language or cat calling by complete strangers. At one point, two people are captured taking a photo of Novick as he voices his shock over the invasion of privacy.

During the documentary, a man decides to sit next to him for a meal and then proceeds to ask for his picture, despite the fact that Novick told him that he wasn’t in the entertainment business.

The question Novick poses at the end of his documentary is just as important as the footage he filmed on the busy streets of New York.

“The next time you see someone who is different than you, think about what their day might be like, think about all of the events of their life leading up to that point … and think about what part of their day do you want to be.”

So far, people seem touched by Jonathan’s story.
