WWE News: WWE Warns Future And Current Talent To Use Social Media With Caution

The WWE, like any major company, is in a positive where their every move is consistently criticized. Especially for a business that owns its fair share of bad history — with steroids and drugs galore — the past five years were a stepping stone to public acceptance. There is one thing that will hinder every single company until man ceases to exist: social media.

With social media comes great responsibility. Some people understand its power to get someone in the public eye for the wrong reason, and they refrain from such uses. Most cannot grasp that feeble concept and continue to post their lives away from a smartphone.

“Look @kimklro I met the Latino Ms. Piggy today at the gym. I wish you were there to have a good laugh with me! #MsPig” – @RandyOrton”

WWE tells their employees to be involved on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. Some take it too far. With all of the Alberto Del Rio scraps that still needs cleaned up, I wouldn’t be surprised if the WWE halts their superstar’s social media efforts. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that WWE is now warning their superstars and future talent to be very careful on social media.

As noted earlier here on the website, WWE is now telling prospective talent to be careful what they say on social media. As you may recall, last May Jay Briscoe came under fire for threatening to shoot anyone who taught his kids that gay marriage was okay. While Briscoe apologized for the comment within 24 hours, the incident killed his and Mark’s chances at coming to WWE which was under consideration at the time.

Just to follow a simple rule on social media: If you can’t tell your grandma what you’re posting, then don’t post it. Brisco learned it the hard way. On top of that report, the people who conduct tryouts are now being told to watch the prospective talents’ social media accounts as well.

One NXT wrestler, Slate Randall (Shaun Ricker), learned the hard way when he sent an email to the company that got him fired. His use of Twitter was also in question, as the WWE were not fans of what he posted.

Just like that, two men lost their job because they didn’t think before doing something. I’m not here to criticize people’s actions, but when it is easily avoidable, then shame on Ricker and Briscoe. Ricker was highly touted in NXT and the Briscoe’s are a top tag-team in the world. WWE continued to be very intelligent in that department.

They don’t want to end up with a scandal that brings horrible press from a social media mishap. Hopefully, due to the Del Rio situation, the people in the back will also be reprimanded for how things went down. Cody Barbierri got very lucky with his idiotic actions against Del Rio.

Del Rio didn’t handle the situation properly, but no racist comment should’ve been made. Then, Barbierri lashed out on WWE’s official Twitter account by calling out Del Rio. According to reports, if Barbierri wasn’t so “in” with the McMahon family, he may be fired too and Del Rio would only have gotten suspended.

If WWE continues this trend, it will be a lot beneficial for their future. Wrestlers that can’t silence themselves from profanity on social media aren’t worth the time. If you don’t believe me, look where Slate Randall is. He may be a champion in another promotion, but baggage will always linger.
