Alexa Vega Joins Brette Taylor For ‘Nashville’ Cast

Alexa Vega and Brette Taylor will now play supporting roles in upcoming episodes of the TV drama Nashville. The TV series is based on the lives of fictional country singers and the people they deal with every day.

Luke Wheeler (Will Chase) is one singer whose life is among the focuses for the country music TV drama, a man like most, yet not. People come and go, and others stay, and some of them get songs written about them. Wheeler just might end up being central in Season 3, depending on Rayna Jaymes’ (Connie Britton) answer to his proposal.

The ABC series will cast Alexa Vega as Gunnar Scott’s (Sam Palladio) high school sweetheart Kiley. This backstory will flavor the fact that she’s just arrived in town as a single mom raising a 10-year-old son she had at a young age. Speculation states that the boy may be Gunnar’s child and could complicate things quickly.

Vega is known for her roles in Spy Kids, The Tomorrow People, and Machete Kills, a child actress on the rise whose fame hasn’t destroyed her like most. She may become a brief throwback fling for Gunnar, or simply someone who will shake him up when he needs his confidence the most.

Brette Taylor comes from Return to Paradise and Laws of Attraction, and will be Luke Wheeler’s new backup singer. Her dark and mysterious past will give her a recurring role as she becomes Deacon Claybourne’s (Charles Esten) muse. This could create yet another rift in the business as her loyalties may be put to the test.

Deacon and Wheeler are both flames of Rayna Jaymes, one of the main focuses for the show who has developed a rift with Juliette Barnes (Hayden Panettiere) over musical style and supposed privileges. As the world of Nashville’s country music scene grows more and more complicated, we can expect a richer story with lots of drama and possible backstabbing.

ABC’s series has certainly shown what the tabloids have revealed to be a dark and dirty side to the glamorous world of country music. With new Nashville cast members like Alexa Vega and Brette Taylor bringing more backstory into the mess, the story shows no signs of getting any simpler.

Catch Nashville on ABC at 9 pm Central Time. The season premiere hits September 24.
