Philip Seymour Hoffman Stands Proudly In ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1’ Poster

Posters for the new Hunger Games film are officially released. Usually this would be a celebratory moment for fans of The Hunger Games franchise, but it might be a bit of a bittersweet moment seeing as one of the posters featured is of late actor Philip Seymour Hoffman, who died of a drug overdose back in February while filming The Hunger Games: Mockingjay.

While the production company behind the franchise is releasing the film in two parts, Hoffman filmed enough that he will be in both films without any huge holes in the plot. In the new poster, Hoffman is seen standing tall as the character Plutarch Heavensbee with a solemn look on his face.

Before his death, Philip Seymour Hoffman played Plutarch Heavensbee, who is the Head Gamemaker of the games. In the two Hunger Games films we have yet to see, he gets a promotion of sorts and is the commander of the rebel forces in District 13. A rebellion leader, he is a huge voice in trying to keep Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) safe.

Additionally, the production released a teaser trailer for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 as part of the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film. As expected, fans went bonkers over the tease.

After Philip Seymour Hoffman’s death, director Francis Lawrence came forward to speak about how the character will live on in the series.

“We finished the majority of his work. I think he might have had eight to 10 days left on our schedule. In most of those scenes, Phil didn’t have any dialogue. We are going to put him into those scenes, but we’re only using real footage. We’re not creating anything digital or a robotic version of him.”

This was a different story from Lionsgate. The studio behind the series initially said that Hoffman would be recreated with the use of CGI effects. According to he Hollywood Reporter, the actor didn’t film one major scene, but with verbal confirmation from the director that his role won’t be affected, it’s unknown how they will show this missing scene.

At the time of the actor’s death, Lionsgate released a statement:

“Philip Seymour Hoffman was a singular talent and one of the most gifted actors of our generation. We’re very fortunate that he graced our Hunger Games family. Losing him in his prime is a tragedy, and we send our deepest condolences to Philip’s family.”

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 will hit theaters on November 21, 2014.
