‘Game Of Thrones’ Reminds Man That His 10-Month Old Foster Baby Is Still In Car

Seth Jackson, a 29 year old Wichita, Kansas man, is facing charges after leaving his 10 month old foster child in a hot car. While watching an episode and a half of Game of Thrones, he and his partner smoked marijuana, forgetting that the little girl was in the car. It wasn’t until a baby started crying on the episode of Game of Thrones that their memory was jogged and they rushed out to find that she was dead.

According to the Associated Press‘ Roxanna Hegeman, the couple was smoking marijuana and eating pizza while watching Game of Thrones with an adopted 5 year old child inside a car.

“The affidavit says Jackson’s partner told police that Jackson called that day to let him know he would be picking the 10-month-old up from the baby sitter after taking their 5-year-old adopted child to a doctor’s appointment. Jackson told police that when he arrived home, he locked the car and went inside with his 5-year-old and the pizza.

Jackson’s partner said he and Jackson watched one and a half episodes of “Games of Thrones” and smoked marijuana Jackson had picked up that day, according to the affidavit. The partner told police Jackson realized he had left the 10-month-old outside in the car when he heard a child crying on the TV show.”

The 10 month old girl was in the car for over 2 hours, with the windows rolled up in 90 degree heat. Her cause of death was determined to be hyperthermia due to heat exposure. Seth Jackson is facing charges of first degree murder since he was partaking in the illegal act of smoking marijuana at the time of death. His partner is not currently facing any charges.

When police arrived on the scene, Seth Jackson was on the phone screaming:

“I left her in the car, she’s dead, she’s dead,”

In addition to the adopted five year old and the now deceased 10 month old, the men are also caring for three other foster children aged 3, 5, and 18, as well as another adopted child that is 7 years old. The 3-and 5-year-olds are said to have been visiting other children at the time of the death.

Seth Jackson’s attorney has made it clear that he should not be compared to a recent news story in which a father left his child in the car all day long, presumably intentionally.

“There is not one scintilla of intent on behalf of my client to hurt or harm any of those children. This is a young man who’s never been in any trouble before. He is a church-goer…. [Jackson] is looking at the same sentence as if he walked into somebody’s home or a store, pulled out a firearm and shot them. These are two horses of a very different color.”

Although Game of Thrones reminded Seth Jackson that the young girl was still in the car, sadly the reminder did not come soon enough. The tragic scene that played out in Seth Jackson’s real life may very well be too tragic for even George RR Martin to mimic within his novels, and is one that no parent should ever have to experience, even from afar.
