Katie Holmes may call New York City her home, but apparently she’s still an Ohio girl at heart.
The actress, a native of Toledo, expressed her excitement at the idea of fellow Buckeye State native LeBron James returning home. James announced earlier this month that he would be coming back to the Cleveland Cavaliers, the team that drafted him in 2003.
James is a native of Akron, Ohio, just a jaunt down the road from Cleveland.
Katie Holmes said that she, like most other Ohioans, is thrilled to have the NBA MVP back for his hometown team.
“I’ve been visiting my family in Ohio, and we’re so happy as Ohioans that LeBron [James] is coming back!” she told People. “It’s a really big deal for our state, and it’s so cool of him.”
LeBron actually cited his commitment to Ohio when he made his announcement earlier this month, saying it was always his desire to return home and win a championship.
In a Sports Illustrated article, LeBron said:
“I always believed that I’d return to Cleveland and finish my career there. I just didn’t know when. After the season, free agency wasn’t even a thought. But I have two boys and my wife, Savannah, is pregnant with a girl. I started thinking about what it would be like to raise my family in my hometown. I looked at other teams, but I wasn’t going to leave Miami for anywhere except Cleveland. The more time passed, the more it felt right. This is what makes me happy.”
LeBron added that he knew it would take hard work to bring a title back to Ohio.
“In Northeast Ohio, nothing is given. Everything is earned. You work for what you have,” he said. “I’m ready to accept the challenge. I’m coming home.”
Count Katie Holmes among those ready for the challenge as well.
