Bill Murray fans — if you’re going to display your love of all things Bill Murray in the form of an unofficial event, you may want to count the man himself as a guest.
In a series of random but equally awesome public crashings, Bill Murray decided to show up to an impromptu CVT Soft Serve event appropriately titled “Bill Murray Ice Cream Social.” It all went down on Tuesday night when Joe, the owner of a now very popular ice cream truck, decided to throw an ice cream social for Bill Murray.
According to Gawker Joe didn’t know Bill Murray, but he had heard a rumor that he was in town while filming a movie. So what did Joe do? He decided to invite the “entire neighborhood and the cast and crew of the film for free ice cream.”
Soon after Murray showed up Instagram photos were popping up of Joe and the actor enjoying some free soft serve ice cream. Getting Bill Murray to show up to an impromptu event is an awesome accomplishment, but the free promotion doesn’t hurt either.

Giving the exclusive to Gawker Joe explained: “Long story short, the guest of honor made it to the party and the rest is history. Like my dad always says, ‘You’ll never dance with the pretty girl unless you ask.”

This isn’t the only time Bill Murray has popped up at a random event. Before receiving unofficial invitations, Murray grabbed headlines when he crashed a man’s bachelor party. Of course he didn’t leave without imparting some wisdom to the groom-to-be. Captured on video, Murray said:
“Don’t just sort of think in your ordinary mind, you think, ‘OK let’s plan a date, let’s make a party and get married. Buy a plane ticket for the two of you to travel all around the world and go to places that are hard to go to and hard to get out of, and if when you come back to JFK, when you land in JFK and you’re still in love with that person, get married at the airport.”
On a separate occasion the actor photobombed a couple’s engagement photo.
