‘Pirates Of The Caribbean 5’ Release Date Plundered, Can Johnny Depp Make A Comeback?

The Pirates of the Caribbean 5 release date is not only confirmed, but also set. Currently titled Dead Men Tell No Tales, the latest adventures of Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) will supposedly take place six years after his journey to the fountain of youth.

POTC 5 has seen its share of delays and false starts over the years, especially after the loss of the series’ regular producer Jerry Bruckheimer (he left for Paramount). Two new directors are taking the helm of the latest film, though the producer is not yet known. Kon-Tiki’s Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg are adapting the screenplay from Men in Black 3 writer Jeff Nathanson’s story.

Nothing yet is known of the Pirates of the Caribbean 5 plot, but speculation states that someone from the past might be back. With the death of Orlando Bloom’s Will Turner in At World’s End, we could see a return of the character to reunite with his wife in spite of the curse of replacing Davy Jones. Blackbeard might also be back, cheating death after losing it to Captain Jack Sparrow’s trickery in On Stranger Tides. Death has hardly been a barrier to major characters in the series, starting all the way from the beginning with the curse of the Black Pearl. “Dead Men Tell No Tales” indicates someone will come back.

Can Johnny Depp make a comeback as the always-drunk swashbuckler? After the abysmal and embarrassing Lone Ranger, Depp hasn’t had much luck. Disney is betting on Depp again with the Pirates of the Caribbean 5 release date of July 7, 2017. This is a week after the planned release of Despicable Me 3 and a week prior to Fantastic Four 2 (in case the first one does well enough).

We can’t expect Fantastic Four to fare much better than its first take, considering the fan rage over the new casting choices, as well as the failure of any franchise to match the Avengers level of success. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 suffered a similar fate, so POTC 5 could see some smooth sailing.
