Word has it that Charlize Theron and Sean Penn will wed soon, perhaps as early as this summer. The two are working on a film together titled The Last Face, where he is directing and she is starring, and it seems they are looking to take things to the next level in their relationship.
According to a source for Us Weekly, “They want to get married very soon.” Not only are Theron and Penn said to be planning a wedding, “a Penn confidante” tells the magazine that the couple is looking at adopting a child together. Charlize already has a son, Jackson, she adopted on her own.
Charlize and Sean started dating about eight months ago, but they have known one another for nearly two decades. As fans know, Penn was married to House of Cards star Robin Wright for many years and the two have two children together, Dylan and Hopper. Wright is now engaged to Ben Foster. Charlize was in a relationship with Stuart Townsend for quite a few years.
If indeed Charlize Theron and Sean Penn wed soon, it does not sound as if fans should expect an over-the-top wedding a la Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. In a recent issue of Vogue, as shared by People, Theron said she has “never had the dream of the white dress.”
Theron added that often when she watches others get married, she’s “sitting there just devastate.” She explains, “It’s supposed to be this night of celebrating love, and all you see is a couple separated all night making sure everybody else is okay.” That would seemingly indicate that if Sean and Charlize do wed, it may be a more quiet, personal affair than what many celebrities pursue.
The actress has said that her relationship with Penn progressed slowly because they had been friends for a long time and they were aware it could be screwed up and lost by letting a relationship get too serious, too fast. She says, however, “at the end of the day, it was somewhat effortless.” Theron says that it happened naturally and that “people who really love me can see the effect it has had on me.”
Given that high praise for her significant other, it would seem natural to think that marriage may well be in the cards for these two. Whether Charlize Theron and Sean Penn wed this summer or not, the duo does seem to be quite serious about one another and in it for the long haul.
