Carrie Fisher drops 50 pounds, looking to get back into metal bikini from Star Wars

After dropping 50 pounds, actress and author Carrie Fisher, best known for her role as Princess Leia in the original Star Wars movies, is looking to get back into that famous metal bikini from Return of the Jedi – or to at least be able to say that she can do it if she wants.

“I want to get into the metal bikini and just walk around the house like an idiot,” she said in an interview with Ann Curry on Today. “Answer the doorbell: ‘What is it? This old thing?’ … I’ll come out with a line of metal bikinis for women over 40. If you want dignity, you wear metal bikinis over (age) 40.”

She was all jokes throughout most of the interview, but she does take her weight loss seriously. In the interview, she remarked that she was at the point where she “couldn’t look in the mirror. I thought that was getting old. It turns out it was mostly getting fat.”

Fisher attributes her success to a Jenny Craig program. Back in January, she announced her partnership with Jenny Craig and, in a relatively short seven months, managed to drop the 50 pounds thanks to Jenny Craig. Three months back, Fisher announced that she had lost 30 pounds from when she started in January.

“I’m pretty fearless, but my scale is frightening. So I would go to the doctor and I would stand not facing it. That’s an adult! I have a child. So that’s something I’d like to not do anymore, be frightened of the scale.”

Fisher is currently on tour with her solo show, “Wishful Drinking”, where she recounts growing up with Eddie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds as her parents. And yes, Star Wars fans, she recounts her experience with Star Wars, too.
