WWE News: The Rock Reveals His Original WWE Storyline Plans And Says He Wants To Return To The Ring

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is a movie star, wrestler, and overall entertainer. However, this Herculean man does have his limits. In a match last year with John Cena at WWE’s WrestleMania 29, he was hurt….and hurt badly. He tore two tendons in his pelvis and it took him months to come back from it fully. Oh, and he was set to film Hercules 6 weeks after Mania. This man is literally Superman in some ways, and despite it all, he keeps going at it for more and more punishment.

The Rock is one of the best pro-wrestlers of all time and surely one of the most successful. However, after he was hurt in his last match, would he return to the WWE to wrestle another match? His relationship with WWE is just fine, which is why he was cool enough to show up alongside Stone Cold Steve Austin and Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania 30 in the opening segment.

In an interview on ESPN’s SportsNation recently, Rock was asked if he would return to the WWE. He revealed that he was originally set to come back to the WWE for WrestleMania 30 in a big, year-long set up to face Brock Lesnar. Those plans were nixed when Rock was hurt, and he had to go back home for an MRI the very next day, so he missed RAW. Originally, he was set to be on RAW to set up the angle. Somehow, Rock was going to originally do this match while filming. This would have been a freaking tense schedule.

Again, however, the plans were killed off, and, of course, we saw Lesnar go on to defeat The Undertaker at WrestleMania 30, so he didn’t lose much from this.

Rock claimed in the past, when asked, that he would return to the WWE to wrestle for the right price. However, who he would face is up in the air. He said that he had been talking to Vince McMahon about a return, the issue is currently that they are trying to find an opponent who makes sense. Rock once said he’d love to face his cousin Roman Reigns and called him and Bray Wyatt out by name when talking about up and comers who could be future opponents.

Roman Reigns is set to win the WWE World Heavyweight Title at WrestleMania 31 and his opponent is rumored to be Brock Lesnar….which would mean both men would be out if Rock returns. So currently, the WWE has the problem of who Rock could come back to take on. They easily could do Cena/Rock 3, which many do not want to see. Or he could face off with someone like Wyatt as he does love the character. Chris Jericho came back wanting to work with him specifically, if that tells you anything.

If The Undertaker does not wrestle at the big event, Sting could very well face The Rock as there was always a big push for this back in the Attitude Era. If Sting is taken, Rock may not wrestle until WrestleMania 32 at the earliest, but could still appear for the WWE if wanted. Rock has been part of the last three WrestleManias, so it would make sense for him to be at the San Francisco event, especially if honored for the WWE Hall of Fame as is rumored.

Regardless of who takes on The Great One, WWE having The Rock back at all is a major thing. He is one of the biggest stars in the world, and he would add a lot to anything WWE could do with him.
