Vacations are generally an expensive affair. People generally tend to lose money and spend a lot while on a vacation and return home poorer. That however doesn’t seem to be applicable for Thomas Mistele, a resident of Flemington, New Jersey. When Thomas decided to go for a vacation to Block Island, an island situated about 13 miles (21 km) south of the coast of Rhode Island and 14 miles (23 km) east of Montauk Point on Long Island, he had no idea that he would be coming back home to New Jersey richer by $1 million.
Thomas reportedly bought a $20 Scratch Game lottery ticket from a Block Island pharmacy. To his luck, he won the same amount back. Bolstered by the success of the first ticket, he decided to try his luck again, and bought yet another $20 ticket. The second ticket was to change his life forever and he won $1 million with the second ticket, reports KWTX
The Rhode Island lottery has issued a press release announcing Thomas’ lucky win, The release adds that Thomas began “shaking with disbelief” after he realized that he had won the $1 million lottery.
Mistele was staying with a friend on Block Island, which is famous for its historic inns and outdoor activities. After he won the lottery, he called his friend up immediately to let him know about the developments. The next call was made to his family – which includes his mother and a brother. The trip to Block Island has definitely proved lucky for Thomas Mistele who according to his own family members is “the lucky one” in their family.
Thomas Mistele has not decided what he would do with the lottery winnings but his initial plans is to have some fun, buy a car and save for his retirement.
While an amount of $ 1 million might pale in comparison to what is being paid out by Powerball Jackpots, there is no denying the fact that the amount is still significant. In case you are planning a trip to Block Island, you now know where to try your luck!
