George Clooney Angrily Denies That He Must Become A Muslim To Marry Amal Alamuddin

George Clooney, 53, does not usually respond to stories about his relationships. However, the article about his engagement to 36-year-old British lawyer Amal Alamuddin, reported by The Inquisitr yesterday, has made him exceptionally angry.

The Daily Mail had alleged that Clooney’s future mother-in-law, Baria Alamuddin, was opposed to the impending marriage because Clooney is not a Muslim, and, especially, not Druze.

The article quoted “unnamed sources” saying that Baria thought her daughter ” could do better, “and felt that she should have sought a husband from within the Druze community. Baria was said to have made her feelings known to friends in Beirut, where Amal was born.

Now, USA Today reports that George Clooney has given them an exclusive statement denying that Baria requested that he convert to Islam. “First of all, factually none of the story is true. Amal’s mother is not Druze. She has not been to Beirut since Amal and I have been dating, and she is in no way against the marriage, but none of that is the issue,” said Clooney.

Clooney is angry about the suggestion that Amal will be “cast out of the community” if the wedding, planned for July 12 near to Clooney’s villa at Lake Como in Italy, goes ahead. He says it’s simply untrue “that several women have been murdered” for not abiding by strict Druze rules.” He added:

“If they fabricate stories of Amal being pregnant, or the marriage is on the set of Downton Abbey, or that I’m running for office, or any number of idiotic stories that they sit at their computers and invent, I don’t care.

The irresponsibility, in this day and age, to exploit religious differences where none exist, is at the very least negligent and more appropriately dangerous. We have family members all over the world, and the idea that someone would inflame any part of that world for the sole reason of selling papers should be criminal.”

The Daily Mail was asked to comment, but has yet to respond.

George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin started dating in October 2013, very soon after Clooney split from WWE Diva Stacy Keibler. Clooney was once married to actress Talia Balsam for four years and is noted for having a series of on/off relationships with a number of women.

The list includes: Kelly Preston (1987-1989), Celine Balitran (1996-1999), Renee Zellwegger (2001), Ginger Lynn Allen (2000-2007), Sarah Larson (2007-2008), and Elisabetta Canalis (2009-2011). Clooney has denied that he ever had an affair with Croatian model Monika Jakisic, at the beginning of this year.

As the old adage says, when confronted with an uncomfortable allegation, “Deny, Deny, Deny!”

What else is there that George Clooney can do?
