A California teen accidentally buried himself in seven feet of sand when the tunnel he was digging collapsed. Matt Mina, 17, was trapped with his arms pinned behind his body after the cave in occurred.
According to the Orange County Register Matt survived by using his head to create pockets of air, while he told ABC:
“I didn’t know if anyone could hear me when I was screaming for help.”
At 3:38 lifeguards and paramedics received a distress call from someone at the beach and a crowd gathered as they worked to free him from his own tunnel.
During their efforts Mina was not aware anyone was helping him as he passed in and out of consciousness, stating:
“Once you’re six feet under, you can’t really hear anything atop,” while adding “I thought I was going to die.”
It’s a miracle he survived and a warning to others, avoid digging sand tunnels!
