Veterinarian Locks Himself In A Hot Car To Teach Everyone A Lesson [Video]

Two years ago, a popular veterinarian named Dr. Ernie Ward locked himself inside a hot car to teach the public a lesson. This summer, the video is making its way back around the internet news feeds after it was recently featured in articles on Tucsan Weekly, Pophangoverand Entertainment.ie. The message is still an important one. Just about everyone realizes that it is critically dangerous to leave a pet inside of a car with the windows closed even for a few minutes when it’s warm out. What many people do not realize, though, is that it’s critically dangerous to leave a pet inside a hot car even with the windows rolled down a little.

Dr. Ernie Ward got a thermometer, a timer and a video recording device and locked himself inside a car on a warm day. Even with all four windows rolled down slightly, Dr. Ward said that at the five minute mark, the heat was already “stifling” and “oppressive.” At ten minutes, the car was 106 degrees and the veterinarian said it was almost unbearable. The breeze outside was strong, but it didn’t enter the car, even with the windows cracked.

Dr. Ernie Ward said:

“You can make all the excuses you want. You can say, ‘It will just be for a second; I’m going to leave the windows cracked. It’s a breezy day. It’s not that hot.’ But those excuses are meaningless, unless you have sat in that car during that same time.”

The veterinarian can be found on Facebook, where he is still receiving much gratitude for his willingness to lock himself in a hot car to help everyone understand what it is really like… even with the windows cracked.
