Brazil comes into today’s match tied for the lead in points in Group A with Mexico, whom they played to a 0-0 draw on Tuesday, June 17. They hold a one goal advantage over Mexico in goal differential, giving them a slight edge to take Group A coming into today’s games. Look for Brazil to attempt to run up the score to ensure that they advance to the elimination round as the winner of Group A rather than the runner up.

The winner of Group A will go on to play Chile, the runner up in Group B, in the first round of elimination play. The loser will face a very tough Netherlands team that battled Chile to a 2-0 victory this afternoon in the first match of their elimination round.

Cameroon, for their part, has already been eliminated. Today will be their last game in the 2014 World Cup, win, lose or draw. Additionally, they will be playing without some of their best players, having lost midfielder Alex Song to a red card and striker Samuel Eto’o to injury. It’s also possible that the team will voluntarily sit additional players because of unsportsmanlike conduct during a scuffle in their last match.

Still, Brazil knows better than to take a team playing for pride for granted. According to a Yahoo Sports report, Brazil defender David Luis had this to say coming into today’s Cameroon vs. Brazil match:

“We will be facing a team that comes without any responsibility. Their players will want to show that they can do better than they did in the first two matches. A victory against the hosts would be like a title to them. Cameroon will be playing for pride. Their players are still representing their nation and they will want to leave the World Cup by beating the hosts. We know that we will be facing a team that still wants to play well”
