Zoë Kravitz Ate Clay To Lose 20 Pounds For Anorexic Role In Movie

Zoë Kravitz needed to slim down for her latest movie role, so she ate clay in order to lose weight fast!

Kravitz opened up to US Weekly at her The Road Within premiere in L.A. on Wednesday, and revealed some interesting secrets about how she managed to lose 20 pounds for her role as an anorexic and bulimic character in the movie.

She spoke about eating disorders, revealing that she herself has had her own trials and tribulations with the condition:

“I’ve struggled with it myself in the past. I think all young women do. There are a bunch of images that are thrown in our faces all the time about what we’re supposed to look like at 14, 15, 16. It’s confusing. I think every woman can identify with that struggle.”

In order to fit the part of Marie in the film, the already-skinny actress needed to shed an additional 20 pounds. Zoë Kravitz shared with the publication some details about how she did it.

“I did a cleanse. I tried to do it the healthiest way as possible, even though it’s not healthy to do,” she said.

And her solution for losing weight fast? To drink clay! “I ended up drinking clay because it cleans out your body and fills you up. I was eating like a Mason jar of pureed vegetables a day and running.”

Even though Kravitz is by no means the only celebrity to consume clay for the purposes of losing weight, following the lead of other stars like Shailene Woodley, who enjoys a glass of it regularly, she described the process as “awful.”

She added that she would: “Never encourage anyone” to follow in her footsteps, saying, “I was a space cadet,” basically “don’t try this at home kids.”

In order to prepare herself mentally for the dramatic weight loss she was about to undertake, Zoë Kravitz did some research on the internet.

She explained that the world of anorexia was “very scary,” but that, thankfully, there are numerous support groups available for people in need.

Now, fortunately, Zoë Kravitz is not one of them.
