Historically speaking, whenever someone has one of their family members suffer a tragedy, most people would be very supporting and understanding, more so if that tragedy happens to be rape. Yet in northern India, the mother of a rape victim wasn’t comforted, but attacked!
Though the situation in India is totally ludicrous, the reason why five men attacked the mother of the rape victim is because the mother refused to withdraw her complaint, as reported in MSN. Right now in India, investigators are seeking out clues in a gang rape that left two teenage cousins dead. The attack on the rape victim’s mother happened earlier this week in the town of Etawah in Uttar Pradesh state right after the May 11 rape of her teenage daughter. A local man, who is unnamed at the moment, was arrested after the mother filed a complaint with the authorities.
This happened in the dark shadow of two girls, one 14 years old and the other 15 years old, who were raped and found dead hanging in a tree, as reported earlier here on The Inquisitr.
In that report, angry villagers were furious because the police had done nothing to search for the girls when they were first reported missing on Tuesday evening. They silently protested the alleged inaction by refusing to allow the bodies to be cut down from the tree once they were discovered. Eventually, the villagers allowed the authorities to take down the corpses after the first arrests were made on Wednesday. Police arrested two police officers and two men from the village, and were searching for three more suspects. Still, the girls remain unnamed because rape victims cannot be named under Indian law, even if they are dead.
In a supporting report by Yahoo News, the incident at Etaway included five men, which included a father, brother, and a cousin of the man accused of the rape. They followed the rape victim’s mother away from her house and assaulted her, demanding she drop the accusation. The mother was in critical condition in a local hospital with numerous broken bones and internal injuries.
Police arrested three men, which are most likely the father, brother, and cousin of the accused, on Thursday and are looking for two more in connection with the attack.
Authorities in India have become increasingly aggressive towards rape accusations since 2012, when a 23-year-old woman was fatally gang-raped on a moving bus in New Delhi, which sparked worldwide protests.
