Epic Proposal Video Spans 26 Countries And 4 Years

In what may be the most elaborate proposal video ever, Montana native Jack Hyer filmed himself lip synching the lyrics to The Proclaimers’ hit “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)”… and he wasn’t joking, either.

The 21-year-old Hyer, who says that he knew he would marry girlfriend Becca Strellnauer on their first date, created the elaborate video over the course of 4 years while traveling to a staggering 26 countries as a part of his studies. Relying on companions to help film his proposal, Hyer lip synched to the 1988 hit in locales as far-flung as Cambodia, Israel, China, Greece, France, and Turkey.

The couple, who dated briefly in high school, began a serious relationship their first year together at the University of Montana in Missoula. Their first date went so well that Hyer wrote a prophetic single sentence in his journal: “I’m going to marry this girl eventually.”

“That’s when I decided to make the video because I knew I wanted to travel,” Hyer said of the epic proposal. He told ABC News that he came up with the idea of using the Proclaimers’ song in the video while waiting for a flight to London. “I heard that song and the lyrics and I wrote down in the journal where I wanted to go and what lyrics would go along with each place,” Hyer continued, describing how he planned the proposal.

When the time came to edit the video together, Hyer spent nearly sixteen hours getting all of the footage to work together, explaining that he didn’t always have the track to listen to. All of his hard work paid off at the moment of his proposal. According to The Huffington Post, Hyer tricked Strellnauer into thinking that the video they were viewing was a college “graduation slideshow.” Instead, the 22-year-old found herself watching Hyer’s proposal:

“I’ve been on many adventures. I’ve traveled on elephant, on camelback, hiked to the lowest point on the earth and I’ve gotten to see some of the highest. But the best adventure I’ve had is loving Becca.”

Becca, who looked appropriately shocked after viewing the video, said yes.

Their proposal isn’t the only one to go viral lately. As The Inquisitr reported, the “300 Sandwich Couple” spent nearly 2 years chronicling the lead-up to their special moment. While it may have taken twice as long, Hyer’s proposal video was certainly no less special for the happy couple.
