Nikki Reed Files For Divorce From Paul McDonald

It’s official! Nikki Reed has decided to file for divorce from Paul McDonald. This isn’t a surprise as the couple announced their split two months ago, but it is somewhat of a shock to see Reed taking the plunge to move on so quickly after the pair amicably announced their split.

The unlikely duo met at the premiere for Red Riding Hood in 2011 when Paul McDonald was just a contestant on American Idol.

Although many were confused about their union, the two announced that they were engaged in June of 2011 after dating for less than three months. The two were then married on October 16, 2011 in Malibu. At the time, the two made a ton of PDAs at different red carpets, but their love ran out.

In March of 2014, Nikki Reed and Paul McDonald announced they were separated and had been living apart for six months due to “work obligations.” A rep for both of the stars told US Weekly,“After much consideration, Nikki Reed and Paul McDonald are ending their marriage. They will continue to share their love of music, and are still working on their debut album, I’m Not Falling, releasing in 2014.”

At the time, Reed and McDonald stated that they had intentions to end their marriage, but “they remain best friends and look forward to their continued journey together.”

It looks like Reed was the first one to step up to the plate as she has now filed for divorce. According to sources, there were some signs earlier in the year that Nikki was ready to move on.

A source told US Weekly that Nikki Reed was spotted out on a double date with Dancing with the Stars’ Derek Hough, as well as his sister Julianne Hough and her boyfriend Brooks Laich. According to the source, Reed and Hough were “making out like fiends” and “dancing up a storm.”

One interesting tidbit came out of the divorce documents. According to TMZ, the couple was married in July of 2011, which goes against every press release and announcement made about their wedding. At the time, the pair officially announced that they had wed on October 14, 2011.

Either the pair is lying about their October wedding, or they decided to get married in private and stage a second wedding for family and friends. Perhaps they didn’t want the world knowing that the two were married even earlier?

According to documents, Paul McDonald is not expected to receive any spousal support.
