Most Annoying Things: Misbehaved Kids Tops The List, See What Else Bothers Americans

What are some of the most annoying things ever? If you said misbehaved kids, then you are not alone according to a recent poll, but the list doesn’t end there. See what else drives people crazy.

Do you get annoyed by every day things easily. That person talking too loud as if they were at home, or if you are flying, somebody taking up all the overhead compartment bins?

There can be any number of things that get us annoyed to the point of distraction and they usually happen when there is no way to avoid the situation, like being trapped in a transatlantic flight with some that is sick or a crying kid.

According to a Harris poll — which looked at things such as behavior, travel, and tech — the top thing that annoys Americans to no end is ill-behaved kids and it is no surprise, be it at a restaurant, grocery store, or any other public place many of us will be unable to stop from turning our heads to find that offender that is being too loud.

The poll — conducted among 2,234 adults, who were surveyed between March 12 and 17, 2014 — had some interesting findings.

The first thing to mention is that Americans agree when it comes to the biggest pet peeves (annoying things) and strongly feel about these particular behaviors.

“In one of the most decisive responses of this poll, a vast majority of Americans say they’re most annoyed by parents letting their children run wild or be disruptive in public places (86 percent), while 14 percent are most annoyed by people who give unsolicited parenting advice to strangers. Those in households with children are more likely than those without (25 percent vs. 10 percent, respectively) to say the unsolicited advisers most bother them, though three-fourths of even this group still points to the non-parenting parents (75 percent) as most annoying.”

For 57 percent of Americans is misuse of common words bothers them the most (What about effect/affect, then/than?), while 43 percent of those surveyed said they didn’t appreciate unsolicited grammar help or wording “editors,” according to Harris.

A big pet peeve nowadays has to do with tech gadgets. Talking loudly on a cell phone is most annoying to nearly two-third (65 percent) of those asked, even more so than people who constantly check their phone when engaged in a one-on-one conversation (35 percent).

Americans (85 percent) think that rude people are one of the most annoying things, while 60 percent think that people who want to change items in a menu are annoying.

What is your biggest pet peeve, the thing/s that annoys you to no end?
