LA Fitness Kicks Mom Exercising With Son Out Of Gym

Hard to imagine an LA Fitness gym reportedly kicking out a mom and son trying to spend some time bonding and getting in shape, but to the shock of Krista Grubb and her 13-year-old son Mason Halye, that is exactly what happened to them.

For Grubb — who is a trainer — working out and lifting weights is not only something she does to stay in shape, but it is a lifestyle that has given her more confidence, so when her 13-year-old expressed an interest in going to her local LA fitness, the mom thought it would be a great time to do something fun together and bond.

“Was really excited to see him lift and see the changes in his body I saw in mine,” Grubb said.

“It was a good bonding time for me and my mom,” Mason Halye added.

The mom and son started working out at the LA fitness located at US Highway 19 in Palm Harbor, located in the west coast of Florida, and everything seemed to be going well until last week.

“One of the trainers approached me and asked me what I was doing. I told her I was working out with my son.” Grubb said and Mason added, “We were just working out and she came and like she helped me with my form and stuff, and that’s basically all.”

The next day, the mom returned as usual and found out LA Fitness had revoked her membership; the explanation for their reasons in doing so left Grubb stunned:

“He said, ‘Well, the notes here say that you were training people here and we have trainers that you know our customers pay.'”

There are strict policies on training paying customers at most gyms that offer personal trainers and that’s understandable for Grubb, but the young mom thinks LA Fitness went over the top with their decision:

“I think it’s pretty ridiculous that they would take her membership away,” Mason said. Grubb could only laugh at the ridiculous situation saying, “It being my son and we’re working out together. I just, it’s insane, like it’s just, it’s insane.”

The Florida mom had recently paid her LA Fitness membership in full and still has not received a refund. According WTVT they attempted to get a comment from the local gym’s management and were directed to the corporate office. No response was received.

The LA Fitness incident with the mom and son comes in the heels of the case of a pregnant woman that was kicked out of a Planet Fitness facility for having a baby bump.
