Robin Roberts Talks About Her Health On The ‘Late Show’

Robin Roberts is feeling great! The Good Morning America co-host visited the Late Show with David Letterman last Tuesday, just to tell Letterman that she is feeling “healthier and happier” than ever before.

“I can look at you right now and say I am healthier and happier than I’ve ever been”

The 53-year-old Roberts confirmed in front of millions of viewers, including Letterman himself, that her body is already doing well after encountering various illness during the past few years. A breast cancer survivor, Robin Roberts was later on diagnosed in 2012 with myelodyplastic syndrome, a life-threatening medical condition that prohibits the production of a particular class of blood cells.

When Robin Roberts went public with her disease shortly after her diagnosis, the percentage of people who signed up as bone marrow donors went up to an astounding 1,800 percent. And this number was just with a single non-profit organization, the Be The Match Registry in Minneapolis operated by the National Bone Marrow Donor Program.

Later that year, Roberts left Good Morning America to have her bone marrow transplant and went back on the air on February 20, 2013. Just last December, Robin posted on her Facebook page the following message:

“At this moment I am at peace and filled with joy and gratitude. I am grateful to God, my doctors and nurses for my restored good health…I am grateful for my entire family, my long time girlfriend, Amber, and friends as we prepare to celebrate a glorious new year together.”

Robin Roberts’ post on the social media site also revealed to the public for the first time her same-sex relationship with Amber Laign, a massage therapist. The two have been together privately for ten years.

Last Tuesday, Roberts expressed her joy on being with David Letterman for the first time, bragging that she has watched the Late Show countless times.

On Instagram, Robin Roberts showed a little of her excitement backstage, where she takes a selfie with her staff.

Roberts then talked to David about her new book, Everbody’s Got Something, which reveals a whole, new perspective on her struggles with health issues during the past few years.

Robin told the departing Late Show host the inspiration for her book:

“You think you’re the only one.”

“And my momma would say, ‘Honey, everybody’s got something.’ Everybody’s got something, not just a challenge, but something to give to help you get through that challenge.”

Robin Roberts’ book is available on Amazon.
