Utah Jazz Coach Ty Corbin Fired — Jim Boylen (?!) Frontrunner To Be New Coach

The Utah Jazz decided Monday to not retain the services of head coach Ty Corbin. Corbin’s stint as Utah Jazz coach was largely uneventful. Sure, he took the team to the playoffs a couple of times, but the overall record for the four years was well under.500 and the Jazz never really seemed to progress.

When GM Dennis Lindsey announced Utah Jazz coach Ty Corbin would not be returning next season, he made sure to mention that the Jazz felt especially grateful to Corbin for his work the last four years.

“I would like to thank Ty and his staff for all of their hard work, dedication and professionalism over the last three-plus seasons. This has not been an easy decision, but after a thorough review process, we as an organization feel that this is the best decision for our franchise moving forward.”

Of course, Utah Jazz coach Ty Corbin was put in a difficult situation, given that he took over for NBA Hall of Fame coach Jerry Sloan after Sloan quit mid-season in 2011. This is not something that is lost on those associated with the team. They realize how difficult of a situation Utah Jazz coach Ty Corbin was in.

Jazz President Randy Rigby had this to say:

“Ty represented himself and the Utah Jazz organization with great class and dignity, and he and his family have been an important part of our team and community for many years. I want to thank them for their numerous contributions to this franchise and wish them well in the future. They will always remain a part of the Jazz family.”

Now that the Jazz needs a new coach, speculation has already begun. According to NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, the next Utah coach might be someone who already has ties to the Salt Lake City area.

That was the collective sound of all Utah sports fans doing a spit take at this news. Boylen might be one of the absolute worst picks to be coach of the Utah Jazz. As coach of the Utah Utes men’s basketball team from 2008-2011, Boylen compiled a less-than-impressive 69-60 record. He was canned after two straight losing seasons.

Suffice it to say the Jazz fans do not want Boylen as their next head coach.

Team officials say the search for the next Utah Jazz coach is now underway.
