John Legend Warns Reality TV Is “Dangerous For Relationships”

Singer John Legend has a warning for pal Kanye West when it comes to reality television shows and that warning could basically be summed up as a big “caution” sign.

Legend was referencing Keeping Up With The Kardashians, the reality show monster that follows West’s wife and her family as they struggle to prove that your average television viewer will watch just about anything.

“I don’t know what Kanye is doing with the show. To this point, he’s made minor appearances but it’s not been all about their relationship,” The Mirror reports Legend told BANG Showbiz.

“It’s really hard to do that on television and I think it’s dangerous for a relationship.”

Legend himself has avoided the vortex of reality television, passing on the opportunity to star with his new wife, Chrissy Teigen, in a show similar to Keeping Up With The Kardashians.

“We don’t want to put our relationship on television, I think we share enough as it is.”

“I think there are all kinds of unscripted television and I think Chrissy’s keen to do the right kind, but not the, ‘Let’s watch John and Chrissy be married’ kind, it’s not really healthy for our relationship.”

John Legend, 35, was first introduced to Kanye West in 2001 by Devo Springsteen after which Legend was subsequently hired to sing during the hooks of West’s music. West would on to not only handle some of the production duties on Legend’s debut album, 2004’s Get Lifted, but would also release the album through his label GOOD Music.

While the pair are good friends, and Legend has even said West is his biggest musical influence, Legend says they try to keep it about the music:

“We’re both grown-ups, we’ve all been through a lot and seen a lot. I don’t think we need each other’s advice on this sort of thing.”

“We know what we’re doing. We definitely talk about music a lot and our opinions about art. I don’t really try and tell him how to run his social life, nor does he do that to me.”

Legend has previously said he’s seen a change in his friend since West and his wife, Kim Kardashian, welcomed their daughter, North, into the world last year.

“I think fatherhood has changed him, it can’t help but change you when you have this beautiful young thing depending on you to protect them and nurture them.”

John Legend is currently working on a dance movie for the “YouTube Generation”, which will allegedly feature mostly “found footage”.
