Mindy Kaling Pretends She’s Avenging Murders While Jogging

Mindy Kaling has a few exercise points for those who are having a little trouble finding the motivation to get fit.

The comedian recently dropped by Conan to discuss everything from getting in shape to the people who view her as a “dictator” in the workplace. If you’re having trouble finding some way to pull yourself off the couch, then Kaling has the perfect motivation: Run like you’re trying to get revenge.

Although Mindy Kaling previously said she has absolutely no desire to get skinny, that doesn’t mean the actress isn’t interested in staying in shape. According to New York Magazine, getting out of the house and jogging requires a unique approach to the problem.

“I have to pretend, when I run, that I’m avenging the murder of my husband. I have to have these elaborate fantasies to motivate myself… I can’t just be motivated by, like, ‘Oh this is good for my health, I should be trim because I’m an actress in Los Angeles.’ That won’t work for me. I’ll just stay in bed,” Kaling explained.

She added, “So, I have to be like, ‘Okay, what am I doing? Okay! Michael Fassbender is my husband and then we were in Central Park one day and someone stabbed him because they hated interracial couples and they got away with it and now I have to go down to Brazil and find this Nazi who killed my husband who is Michael Fassbender.’ My mind wanders too. I’m trying to avenge murder and then I’m hanging out with Beyoncé and in my mind we’re going shopping.”

Time points out that Mindy Kaling also used her appearance on Conan O’Brien’s chat show to discuss the “problems” she faces in the workplace. In her opinion, the people who work on her hit FOX series The Mindy Project shouldn’t bother celebrating their birthdays with co-workers. Not surprisingly, this perspective has rubbed some folks the wrong way.

“Everyone was like, ‘You’re a dictator! Go back to North Korea! We wanna have mirth at our workplace! My big thing is, you have to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ faster,” Kaling explained.

Fortunately for fans of Mindy’s television program, the suits over at FOX wisely decided to renew the sitcom for a third season. Kevin Reilly and Joe Earley said in a joint statement that The Mindy Project was among the “core assets” for the 2014-2015 season.

What do you think about Mindy Kaling’s approach to exercise?
