Cobie Smulders Returns To ‘Agents of SHIELD’

Cobie Smulders is re-enlisting with Agents of SHIELD.

According to TV Line, Smulders will reprise her role as Agent Maria Hill, the character she first portrayed in the mega popular Marvel blockbuster The Avengers. Cobie also played Hill in the pilot episode of Agents of SHIELD and returned in the critically praised sequel Captain America 2. TV Line also hints that Smulders’ appearance on the show will not be confined to just cameo:

Hill will play a large role in the May sweeps episode, and that those who have clamored for a Coulson/Hill team-up will get it, punctuated by lots of action.

Agents of SHIELD executive producer Jeffrey Bell told Marvel.com how they were able to snag Cobie for the remainder of the season:

“The good part was her other show just ended. CBS was very kind to share her early in the season, in [our] pilot, and so the fact that How I Met Your Mother ended allowed Cobie the freedom to do [this]. I think she really likes spending time with our cast and likes playing that character, so honestly we just had to ask and she just said yes.”

[Warning: Spoilers]

Fresh off her 9-year stint on the aforementioned How I Met Your Mother, Smulders will be joining an Agents of SHIELD show that has recently seen not one, but two unexpected betrayals by main characters, coupled with the ramifications from the events in Captain America 2. In fact, fans are still reeling from the most recent episode of Agents of SHIELD entitled, “Turn, Turn, Turn” that saw the return of Hydra in a big way.

And despite the debut of the Marvel villain Blackout, as previously reported Inquistr, the focus of most fans will be the aftermath of Turn, Turn, Turn. Here are just some of the stunned reactionary Tweets posted by fans of the show:

Agents of SHIELD airs Tuesdays at 8:00 p.m., on ABC.
