Mystique Movie: Future ‘X-Men’ Spinoff Rumored To Be One Of Several To Join ‘Wolverine’

A Mystique movie is allegedly in the works now, starting a new trend to expand on what Wolverine started. Fox is planning to keep the X-Men movies going for at least as long as the Avengers, and in order to do that they are going to need a lot more than just Days of Future Past and the now confirmed sequel X-Men: Apocalypse.

While Wolverine was the first and most obvious character to get his own films, he was planned as only the first one. Fox wants to give more characters their own movies, and that could easily expand the universe for decades with literally hundreds to choose from. The first film they are hopeful to get going is a Mystique movie, because there is so much more they believe Jennifer Lawrence can do after she finishes up with The Hunger Games.

As previously reported by The Inquisitr, a Deadpool spinoff has also been a subject of rumors for quite a while now, but complications keep making the movie’s ultimate fate questionable.

Longtime X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner stated about the possibility of Jennifer Lawrence landing a leading role, “I love what Jen Lawrence has done with [Mystique], and I feel like because she is in such a crowded ensemble, there’s so much more opportunity if you were to follow her solo.”

Several other X-Men favorites have been considered for the spotlight as well, as Donner continued:

“There was a regime [at the studio] that didn’t see the worth in [spin-offs], and the current people who run Fox understand, embrace it, and we’re going to do right by it. I’d like to do Gambit. I’d like to do Deadpool. We’ll see. There’s a lot of really great characters.”

Years ago, before we’d even thought we’d get a Mystique movie, there was also talk about a Magneto origin story. It turned out to be another ensemble cast film called X-Men: First Class, and it seemed that the idea of spinoffs had been scrapped. Now there is the possibility of seeing Deadpool, Gambit, and Mystique all in their own X-Men spinoff films, since there is only so much you can do with such a large cast before they all get tired of it.

Look at what happened to Police Academy. Even the starring actor was replaced in the end.

Are we about to see the X-Men franchise take a route more like the Avengers? Could we see a Mystique movie in the next couple of years? Only time will tell, but it appears that Fox is getting ready to change the game in the near future.
