Was Zayn Malik The Inspiration For Marvel’s New Ghost Rider Comic Book?

Zayn Malik has found his face in a completely different kind of publication.

Although reports surfaced earlier this month that Zayn Malik was teaming up with the folks at Marvel Comics for their reboot of Ghost Rider, very few images of the collaboration were available. Now the first issue of the new series is available to purchase, giving One Direction fans an excuse to raid their local comic book shops for a copy.

Die hard fans may balk at the idea of using Zayn Malik as the basis for the character, but Marvel apparently knows what it’s doing. To help lure a whole new generation to the medium, they joined forces with the One Direction singer in developing the reboot.

According to Sugarscape, Zayn Malik’s hair and cheekbones were reportedly used as inspiration during the creation of Robbie Reyes. Instead of riding a motorcycle in his quest to rid the world of evil, this version of hero will slip behind the wheel of a flaming muscle car. In other words, it’s definitely more Fast and Furious than Easy Rider.

Check out the official synopsis for the new series:

“A street race leads a young man on the FAST and FURIOUS road of destiny. Amid an East Los Angeles neighborhood running wild with gang violence and drug trafficking, a war brews in the criminal underworld! With four on the floor, Marvel’s newest GHOST RIDER puts vengeance in overdrive!”

Although the above tweet makes a joke about Zayn Malik possibly starring in a Ghost Rider movie, the idea is certainly intriguing. If the comic book series takes off, then Marvel could return to that well for another cinematic go-around. Since the inspiration for Robbie Reyes is a real guy, there’s a chance the singer could tackle the role on the big screen. Of course, this theory is essentially a writer thinking out loud.

For the moment, Zayn Malik fanatics will have to make do with the new comic book series. As always, be sure to check your locally-owned comic book shops for issues of Ghost Rider before snagging a copy online.
