Leland Yee: Gun Control Advocate And GTA 5 Critic Tried To Sell Rocket Launchers

Leland Yee is already being lambasted as a total hypocrite for being a gun control advocate and a critic of violent video games after the California Democrat was caught running international arms deals.

In a related report by The Inquisitr, the FBI had Leland Yee arrested for bribery and various corruption charges. His arrest also happened to be alongside other notorious gang members like Raymond “Shrimp Boy” Chow.

Over the years, Yee has written a lot of laws, including 138 bills that were successfully signed into law. He’s best known for his efforts to strengthen open records, government transparency, and whistleblower protection laws. But he’s also known for introducing gun control legislation related to so-called assault weapons, which would have made it illegal to sell devices that allowed quicker reloading. He also authored legislation requiring California to study the safe storage of firearms.

Yee is also known for a 2005 law that criminalized the sale of violent video games to children. Although the US Supreme Court eventually struck down the law as unconstitutional, Mr. Yee condemned all gamers who played games like Grand Theft Auto 5 and claimed that such games were created to serve a gun-loving culture:

“Gamers have just got to quiet down. Gamers have no credibility in this argument…. This is all about their lust for violence and the industry’s lust for money. This is a billion-dollar industry. This is about their self-interest.”

Well, Leland Yee’s credibility is now officially out the window. The undercover FBI agent who met with Yee discussed the buying of assault rifles and rocket launchers, and the Democratic Senator claimed his Filipino contacts would purchase them. He also was trying to broker a deal between an international arms dealer and an Italian gangster from New Jersey. In addition, the FBI claims Yee “introduced a businessman to state legislators who had significant influence over pending medical marijuana legislation.”

If anything, this sounds exactly like a scenario that Rockstar games would have inside GTA 5. They’re famous for inserting pop culture jokes, references to famous people, and some people even though the famous bikini girl was Kate Upton (In fact, Lindsay Lohan is suing over a GTA 5 likeness, as well). Considering this history, I would not be surprised if Leland Yee has a cameo appearance in Grand Theft Auto 6.

Still, not everyone is convinced that all the charges by the FBI are valid. David Lee, director of the Chinese American Voters Education Committee, just helped organizea get-out-the-vote-event with Yee, and he’s hoping for the best:

“People are waiting to see what happens, and they are hoping for the best, that the charges turn out not to be true.”
