Singing Nun, Sister Cristina Scuccia, Wows Judges In ‘The Voice Of Italy’ [Video]

When singing nun, Sister Cristina Scuccia took the stage during The Voice Of Italy with a performance of Alicia Keys’ “No One,” it earned her all four shocked judges’ approval.

In case you’re not familiar with the reality TV musical competition, the whole idea behind the blind auditions is that the only ones able to watch and listen to the contestants is the audience, while the four judges sit with their backs to the stage and only turn around when they hear a special voice that tantalized them.

Sister Cristina was indeed what those celebrities wanted to hear, and all of them agreed on it.

A singing nun is not what we are used to seeing on the show — which also airs in the US with the same name — and the good Sister proved that just because one belongs to a religious order it doesn’t mean one is boring, and does not love popular music like the rest of us.

The YouTube video — which has gone viral with more than 3 million views since being uploaded on March 19 — shows as each one of the judges is captivated by the singing nun’s voice and are shocked to see she is dressed in her habit.

Meanwhile, three other Sisters, who have come to support their friend, are seen going wild backstage with who we assume are the singing nun’s parents, an older couple.

The singing Sister identifies herself as 25-year-old Cristina from Sicily (but living in Milan) and an Orsolina nun of the Holy Family.

As to what the Vatican thinks of a Catholic nun participating in a competition such as The Voice, Sister Cristina, who had a great sense of humor, joked that she would expect a call from the Holy Father, Pope Francis.

The nun’s childhood dream was to become a singer and when, in 2008, the Orsolina Sisters organized a music talent competition, she ended up participating by chance. The singing nun was convinced by her Mother Superior to participate in The Voice of Italy.

Her appearance on the musical competition has made the singing nun an overnight sensation as people keep talking about her on social media.

Apparently Coach Raffaella Carrà didn’t fully believe that Cristina is actually a Sister, to which the singing nun replied:

“Yes, I am truly, truly a sister. I came here because I have a gift, and I want to share that gift, I am here to evangelize.”

This is most likely not the last we hear about the singing Italian nun, Cristina Scuccia, and now that she has become a hit, the world will be watching to see how far she will go. Who knows, she may become the first Catholic nun to win The Voice Of Italy as part of Team J-Ax.
