It’s not just top military officials who are defecting out of Libya and away from country leader Moammar Gadhafi, the countries top soccer players, including star goalie Juma Gtat have fled the Libya government to take sides with the countries rebels. Gtat and 17 other players from the Libya soccer team chose to defect and speak out about Gadhafi.
Gtat told the BBC:
“I am telling (Gadhafi) leave us alone and allow us to create a free Libya,” he then laughed as he said, “In fact I wish he would leave this life altogether.”
Soccer is a huge draw in Africa and the rebels can now use most of the teams support as a sign that they have what it takes to overthrown Gadhafi, however that propaganda will only work if the rebels can win some strategic battles against the current regime.
