Sebastian Stan Scores 9-Film Deal With Marvel As The Winter Soldier

It certainly doesn’t hurt to be Sebastian Stan these days. The actor who has come up in guest stints in television shows such as Gossip Girl and Kings, has finally inked a deal that has the potential to drastically change the trajectory of his career and perhaps his anonymity for the rest of his life. It’s said that Stan just inked a nine picture deal with juggernaut studio Marvel.

The fact that Sebastian Stan signed a nine picture deal with the studio is an enormous deal. Most actors these days only sign a six-film deal, so this means that Marvel has huge plans for Sebastian Stan, and it continues with his appearance in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. In the upcoming sequel Sebastian plays Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier who is the best friend of Steve Rogers (Captain America) who arrives as a trained and brainwashed assassin after he was “killed in action” during World War II.

Producer Kevin Feige has said that the Captain America sequel, especially Sebastian Stan’s role will jump start a lot of important projects for Marvel, and now that Stan has signed a nine picture deal, we now know that this isn’t just talk. Marvel has huge plans for Sebastian Stan’s Winter Soldier.

In addition to the Captain America sequel, Stan has potential to land himself into the third Captain America film. Depending on how he’s received by audiences Marvel may spring him into the role of Captain America, since Chris Evans is set to retire after his six picture deal. This makes sense given the fact that Stan’s Bucky takes on Captain America’s “image” at some point in the series.

Other films that Sebastian Stan’s Winter Soldier might turn up in are The Avengers: Age of Ultron, the Black Widow film, then there’s the fact that he can have his very own Winter Soldier film, so there’s a lot of avenues to explore if Marvel studio wants to follow through with the new deal with Stan.

Of his place in the Marvel world Sebastian Stan told Newsrama:

“At the end of the day, you essentially take a year of your life, and make it about this movie. It takes six months to shoot it, another two months re-shooting it and going back for ADR [additional dialogue recording], and another three months talking to press about it.”

The actor continued:

“So you’d better love what you’re doing, right? You’re giving a year of your life to this. And you’re lucky to do that. In my case, I get to be lucky enough to do this for multiple years.”

Captain America: The Winter Soldier hits theaters on April 4.
